Colin Munro

Colin Munro Seymour is the first man I have interviewed.

He is a local fashion designer. He does t-shirts and tank tops that remind me of a futuristic 80s David Bowie if that makes sense, made from Jersey with precise shapes and details in PVC.

I would wear his tank tops with large exaggerated arm holes with a tube top underneath and lots of necklaces as a mini dress. I recommend checking out Colin's Etsy shop.

I took part in his Bad Taste Burlesque Troop show the Heavy Petting Zoo last year and plan on taking part in his upcoming show in August, more to come on that event later. He organized the whole affair calm as can be and put on a good show in his well thought out costumes and acts.

He is currently interning at Complex Geometries in Montreal and mastering in Karaoke and does an exceptional Love Shack by the B52s.

You can now purchase his wares, entitled Colin Munro at Boutique Victoire in Ottawa. Colin has a unique and great personal style and is a very talented smart cookie.

Colin is one of those people I ask random questions about all kinds of things while taking notes, trying to tap into his mountain of knowledge and endless supply of ideas and inspiration. I like to force him to brain storm out loud around me.

What do you do?

I have my own clothing line, organize burlesque shows for my troop, Bad Taste Burlesque and make costumes.

What inspires you?

I find inspiration in all sorts of things. Some constant sources of inspiration are comic books, glam rock ( and wonderful musicians of the era), theatrical designs and the ever vague concept of the "future". I also find fashion on the streets of Montreal very exciting-there are lots of people having fun with style here.

How did you get started?

I realized one day that there was no reason not to be doing what I loved. I'd been making clothes for myself and friends and costumes for shows and parties. It was kind of a natural progression, I guess, into doing in on a larger scale.

What advice do you have for people trying to make their dreams and ideas a reality?

Sometimes I think. I still need advice! I guess the best advice I have to give is to just go for it.

Take the plunge because what have you got to loose?!

Okay, that was cliche but it is true. More specifically, If you need the skills, go learn them!

If you've got the skills but not the experience try interning. And the internet is ALWAYS your friend.
